The Long Valley Nature Park is divided into 3 management zones, each with different management objectives.
The 5-hectare Visitor Zone is designed for visitors and education experience. There are visitor facilities such as Birding Hut for bird watching as well as Wetland Square Long Valley Plaza for activities and events.
The Long Valley Nature Centre is on the other side of the Sheung Yue River and connected with the Visitor Zone by a foot bridge. It provides an indoor area for workshops, exhibition and interactive games.
The Visitor Zone has almost all types of habitats of the Agriculture and Biodiversity Zones. Visitors are encouraged to stay in the Visitor Zone to enjoy the visitor facilities, which can also avoid causing disturbance to the farmers and wildlife in the other two zones.
Since there were farmers farming at the Long Valley before development of Long Valley Nature Park, and their farming activities contributed to the biodiversity of the area, farmlands in the Agriculture Zone were leased out to the original farmers of the Long Valley. To facilitate farming, a network of gabion irrigation channel was constructed for irrigation and storage sheds were constructed near the farmlands for farmers to store farming equipment.
Biodiversity Zone comprises the largest area of Long Valley Nature Park, with a variety of wetland habitats, e.g. paddy fields, water spinach fields, etc. The development works here mainly involved enhancing the water channels and habitat restoration. For instance, banana fields and abandoned farmlands were restored to wetland habitats, which resulted in an increase of 8 hectares of wetland.
